Sideways weapons are the new weapon type introduced at the start of Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 8.
You can get and upgrade both the Sideways Minigun and Sideways Rifle by exploring the alternative dimension known as the Sideways.
Using one of these weapons will not only help you defeat your opponents, but gain XP for the Season 8 Battle Pass by completing a number of challenges for Torin's quest punchcard.

What are the different Sideways weapons in Fortnite? Sideways Minigun and Sideways Rifle explained
With the introduction of Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 8 comes two new weapons - the Sideways Minigun and Sideways Rifle.
These weapons are born of the alternative Sideways dimension and can be revved into a superpowered state where they'll deal bonus damage. The downside, however, is that reaching this state puts them close to overheating, so you need to use them carefully.
Finding and dealing damage with a Sideways weapon are two of the challenges in Torin's questline.
Over the holiday break, you can complete new festive challenges including warm yourself at the Yule Log in the Cozy Lodge, collect toy biplanes and find workshop locations. Elsewhere, Chapter 3 of Fortnite has arrived with a new collection of Battle Pass skins! There's a new map to explore, The Foundation skin, earn Victory Crowns, character collection to complete and a new Victory Umbrellato collect. You can also now slide, web swing, find device locations and COG Tag locations, plus open vaults!
How to get Sideways weapons in Fortnite
Currently, there are three ways to find a Sideways weapon in Fortnite. The first is to kill a player who is carrying one, but, if you'd prefer to find one yourself, it's time to embark into The Sideways or try out a Sideways encounter!
The Sideways Zones will invade a specific landmark at the beginning of every match in Fortnite. This landmark will be randomly selected, so don't expect it to always be in the same place, and is marked by an orange dome on the Fortnite map.
To find Sideways weapons you need to head into this patch of alternative dimension and open the special chests hidden inside. There will always be a number of chests located around a pillar in the centre of the Sideways Zone, but you can also find them dotted about the location.
If you want to avoid the Cube Monsters or opposing players, then we recommend avoiding the chests around this central pillar and focus, instead, on exploring the Sideways for the other chests. It's a good idea to gather some weapons before doing so to ensure you're properly prepared, but, if you're quick, you're sure to find one.
In Retail Row, for example, we found a set of chests on the checkouts in one shop, while, in Dirty Docks, there were chests located on the roofs of certain buildings, which, thanks to the lower gravity in the Sideways, were easy to reach.
How to upgrade a Sideways weapon in Fortnite
If you want to upgrade a Sideways weapon in Fortnite, then you need to collect Cube Monsters by defeating said monsters in the alternative dimension. Cube Monsters will continuously respawn wherever the Sideways sits during a match, so you don't need to worry about finding them.
They will also spawn when you enter a Sideways anomaly for a Sideways encounter, which have now been added back into the game.
Once you've collected enough Cube Monster Parts, you'll be able to upgrade your chosen Sideways weapon by opening the inventory and crafting menu. Simply select the weapon you wish to upgrade and wait for the process to be complete - just make sure you're in a safe place first!
